Flexibility is our motto: The quoted cycling distances for each day are based on the day maps which you will be given, and represent the expected riding. An individual can adjust the cycling according to their needs and weather conditions on the day.

Fri 26 NovArrive Napier 10km

If you are flying into Napier airport you will be met and have a free transfer to the Crown Hotel, Ahuriri. If you are driving to Napier there is lots of free parking in Ahuriri.
The group meets at 1.00pm at the Crown Hotel.

This afternoon we have bike fittings followed by a ride on the bike path to Marine Parade and back to Ahuriri. This is a great opportunity to get familiar with the E-bike you will riding for the next few days. Heading off towards Napier Port we will bike around the headland with its wide vistas of the bay.

Recommended Dinner at a local restaurant “Milk & Honey”.

Sat 27 NovAhuriri (B,L) 25km

An easy cycle north takes us to the coastal community of Bay View before we wind our way through the Ahuriri Station, a working sheep farm and low-lying wetlands.

This ride takes in the coastal views heading north and then the pastoral scenes as we head west and south. We cross to the Ahuriri Estuary and view the variety of protected birdlife in this Department of Conservation Wildlife Sanctuary. Then its off across more sanctuary land following the water’s edge inland and around to Taradale.

Arriving in Taradale, we visit New Zealand’s oldest winery, Mission Estate for a wine tasting and a leisurely lunch, before returning by shuttle to Ahuriri.

Sun 28 NovAhuriri - Havelock North (B,L) 25km

We enjoy a day of diversity! From the Art Deco glamour of the Napier CBD to the moody coastline of Marine Parade and the mouths of the regions three rivers the scene is ever-changing. At the end of the Marine Parade ride we will stop to admire the huge Art installation known as Atea a Rangi or the Star Compass. This is also a good place for a spot of morning tea before starting our ride around the mouths of three rivers. As part of the ride we will be passing through wetlands and bird nesting areas. When we reach Black Bridge it’s off and away along the Tukituki River Trail. Somewhere nice we will stop for a picnic lunch (included). At the end of the stop bank ride we reach the direct route into Havelock North, our destination for today.
Havelock North is a charming rural village with lots of quality shops and restaurants.

Mon 29 NovHavelock North (B,D) 24km

This morning we travel in the van to visit Arataki Honey and drive up stunning Te Mata Peak for amazing views from the top.
We drive to Birdwoods Café and Sculpture Park for a morning coffee and then travel to Moore Road on the eastern side of the Tukituki River.

The ride begins with the stop banks following the course of the river until we reach the wetlands near Haumoana.
Past Haumoana we follow the coastline heading towards Cape Kidnappers, until we reach Clearview Estate for a wine tasting.
Afterwards we cycle back along the coast and near the western side of the Tukituki River to Havelock North.
This evening we have a farewell dinner at Malo Restaurant.

Tue 30 NovPuketapu Loop & Depart Napier (B) 24Km

This morning we are transferred from our Havelock North accommodation to Awatoto (Atea A Rangi installation at the start of the trail).  This morning we are transferred from our Havelock North accommodation to Awatoto (Atea A Rangi installation at the start of the trail). Today we cycle on the Puketapu Loop, a favourite for locals and visitors alike. This ride has proven very popular with tour members as it has a variety of things to enjoy – wooded areas, farmland, river ride and the small village of Puketapu. The scenic bike path beside the Tutaekuri River is first on one side and then on the other. Our destination is the Silky Oaks Chocolates’ Café for lunch.

This afternoon we have an airport drop off. (Flight departure times should be after 2.30pm)

Your Tour Leader: Mandy Page

Mandy lives in Auckland and is a walker and cyclist. She has led 58 tours for Tours Direct over the last 18 years, and just loves travelling with its adventure and fun. 

Believing that most of the delight of travel is in the journey, Mandy likes to make tours flexible for different levels of fitness and experience.   

In 2019 she was tour leader for a Danube Boat & Bike tour.  Mandy discovered the joy of E-Biking by accident and is now an enthusiastic devotee.  Since then, she has led a number of E-bike adventures in the North and South Island of New Zealand.

On a tour with Mandy you can expect there will be variety and surprises.  

As Mandy says, “A day E-biking is a day of fun and exercise with a smile on your face.  I can think of few things to beat a nice trail, good company and scenery to enjoy.”
