Explore the Old Silk Road
22 Captivating Days: Thurs 16 April – Thurs 7 May, 2026
Escorted from New Zealand by Mandy Page
Route of Merchants & Monks…
Retrace the overland journey of ancient traders and adventurers on a segment of the old Silk Road. Begin in Western China, in Kashgar, and go to the Livestock Market. Board a train heading east to Turpan – and travel to Dunhuang’s UNESCO-listed Mogao Caves, frescoed and carved with a thousand images of the Buddha.
Go to Xian, an ancient imperial capital and eastern departure point of the old Silk Road. See the Terracotta Warriors; 8,000 life-size terracotta soldiers that guarded the burial site of China’s first emperor.
Fly from Xian to Lhasa, Tibet. Explore the Tibetan Plateau on a splendid route that embraces the sacred cities of Gyantse and Shigatse, as well as Lhasa, “City of the Sun.”
